Welcome to our website ...the home of Bownbears Newfoundlands, created March 2009.
Our names are Jo & Roy Bown and we live in Nottinghamshire and are currently owned by two Newfies.
We got into the breed in 1996 after being scrutinised as to our fitness to be owned by one of these wonderful dogs, we put our names on a waiting list with Mrs. A Merrick of the Nutbrook kennel.
Our first Newfie was born in 1997 Wellie.....Nutbrook The Bratch and at that point we were smitten with the breed and went on to book our second Newfie with the Nutbrook kennel and in 1999 we took the arrival of Ebony.....Nutbrook Shannon at Bownbears whom we went on to show, two of Ebonys highlights are, taking a 3rd at Crufts in Junior bitch and Best In Show at an Open show.
By now we were well and truly smitten with this wonderful breed and we made the decision to go on and purchase yet another Newfie in 2002 Nino.....Abbeydore Sea Bagnino at Bownbears from Rose & John Evans of the Abbeydore kennel. We showed Nino for a short time but Nino decided he did not like showing so we took him to water training, this he enjoyed immensely. Nino also gained his Kennel Club Good Citizens Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.
At the beginning of 2007 we sadly lost our first Newfie Wellie aged 9 to bloat after he had three attacks and we were so devastated, what a big hole he left behind.
At the end of 2007 we took delivery of our new boy Mack.....Sandbears Mack Super Liner for Bownbears from Suzanne Blake of the Sandbears kennel. Mack is shown and loves his days out and loves everyone he meets.
April 1st 2009 we lost our precious Nino aged 6 to a tumour on his spleen that ruptured and he bled internally, this was so sudden, he was only ill for 18 hours, what a shock to the system this was, it devastated us yet again and another big hole has been left behind.
September 2011 we collected Angel..... Sandbears Angel Delight with Bownbears from Suzanne Blake of the Sandbears kennel. She is a little devil, and does not live up to her name, but that is why we like her, she is full of character.
